EngagEment photoshoots - tips

Engagement photoshoots - why have one? I LOVE engagement photoshoots! Firstly, it is a wonderful way to cement your new engagement together with a special photoshoot before you become newly weds! Your engaged AND you are getting married, it's such an exciting time! And I am here to help you celebrate!

There are no time pressures of a wedding day, we can take our time and do it again if needs be! No rushing, just a relaxed experience from start to finish!

Engagement photoshoots have some many positives. Here I will chat all about engagement photoshoots and tell you why you should have one and what to expect!

WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE AN ENGAGEMENT PHOTOSHOOT?

YOUR engaged! I can't think of a better way to document this amazing milestone! You will be able to create really special memories together before you tie the knot!

Planning a wedding is a really exciting time but it also can be stressful. Weddings require lots of  planning. The venue, the flowers, your wedding dress, suits... the list goes on but one thing you can enjoy and look forward to is a photoshoot before your wedding day.

Engagement photoshoots are a great chance to firstly, practice being in front of the camera. Most people before their wedding day will never have had their photo professional taken. By having an engagement shoot you get a chance before your wedding day to see how you will feel and practice feeling more relaxed. I get it, photoshoots can feel a little uneasy at first, but that feeling is completely normal. In all the years I have been a photographer, I have never met anyone who knows what to do and who doesn't have a few nerves. By meeting with me first you can get to know me more and see how I work. You will then know what to expect on your wedding day and not feel stressed or nervous.

Photoshoots are meant to be fun! A chance for both of you to take some time away from the wedding planning stress to just be TOGETHER, alone and have some special bonding time. You will have some beautiful memories you'll able to look back on in years to come.

WHAT IF I FEEL NERVOUS?

You are not alone! I completely understand, a photoshoot can be a daunting thought. But I am here with years of experience to help you feel at ease and have fun. For most people they have never been in front of the camera. I don't expect you to know what to do. In all the years I have been a photographer I have never met anyone who has known what to do. I will gently guide and pose you so you will look and feel confident in front of the camera.

We will move, walk, run, cuddle... and have fun! Nothing is too posed or staged. I want to capture the REAL, RAW, NATURAL moments between the two of you. Laughter, giggles, connection is what we will capture!

WHAT TO WEAR?

This is a really important part of the shoot... styling.

Looking GOOD makes you FEEL fabulous! A good outfit can make your photos 100 times better! It is always best to plan in advance what you will both wear to ensure that your photos will turn out amazing!

Firstly it is imperative you choose outfits that compliment each other colour wise. Neutral/ solid tones work really well together and look gorgeous in a beach setting or in the forest. Wear something you feel comfortable in, a photoshoot is not the best time to try out a new look incase you don't feel comfortable and then don't like the way you look.

You will want to decide if you would both like to look more formal/ smart. Smart shirt and smart trousers for guys or a smart dress for a lady. Or you may want your photos to look more relaxed with a more casual/ smart outfit.

I always suggest to clients to avoid any clothes with lots of patterns/ stripes/ anything that will clash or be distracting. Neutral tones are timeless and will not date in years to come.

Think ahead about the season and how cold or warm it may be. If it's a chilly time of year factor that in, you can wrap up in a cosy knit or stylish jacket.

WHERE SHOULD WE HAVE OUT ENGAGEMENT SHOOT?

Location again is important, the backdrop of your photos sets the scene and will make your photos look fabulous with a great location! The beach, the forest or somewhere with a stunning building in the background can really make your photos look beautiful! I always try to make the most of any location I am at and try use as many areas as we can to capture great variety for your gallery!

You may even have a special place that holds memories to both of you. If you do, then this cold be a great location to have your engagement shoot at!

We have so many beautiful areas in the Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire area. So many to choose from we are spoilt for choice. If you are unsure we can have a chat and whittle it down!

SO NOW YOU ARE READY!

We've been through the most important factors to consider ahead of your engagement photoshoot! BUT the main thing is... have FUN! I am here to capture the connection between the two of you! With my gentle guidance, you can relax into the shoot and you can be yourselves! And I promise you, you will have beautiful memories and pictures to look back on.
